Animal Print kid's Jeggings DIY

I realize this post is a few days late..

Anyway, this is the outfit Diana wore for Valentine's. I made her the cute pom poms for her hair and these jaguar jeggings. I got the fabric from fabric.com. It's a beautiful, cotton sateen with a little stretch; perfect for these pants.  I get 90% of my fabric from fabric.com, I LOVE their huge fabric selection and pricing.

Crossed fingers??! I wonder what that is all about..

Here is how I made the jeggings. You will need:

1/2 yard Fabric (this fabric is 57" wide, so 1/2 a yard was enough)
1" elastic
Matching thread

Most of the time I use old clothes for a pattern. I lay my pattern flat on the floor and cut at least 1" away from the edges.

Here are the two pieces for the back legs. Turn the 'pattern' pants around and cut the two pieces for the front legs

Put the 2 back pieces together and sew the top part. Do the same for the front legs

Turn the fabric and let the right sides face each other. Then sew them together around the edges as above

Then fold the openings twice and sew. Do the same for the waist. Add your elastic and you are done.

This whole outfit cost less than $25. Now, that puts a huge SMILE on my face.

I love LOVE love these rain boots. I bought 2 pairs at $20. Eli got them in blue. The sweatshirt is also another favorite of mine. I knew she would rock it so I got it for just $8.

It's a skirt and a dress

I love the color mint. When I saw this fabric it sure was love at first sight and I bought it right away.

I used my old maxi skirt I made here for a pattern.  I folded my fabric in half (hotdog style). My measurements are 43" long (from waist to ankle) with a 1.5 inch allowance for the bottom hem and where the waist attaches to the band. Waist 32" around (please don't tell)!

Then I got this above. I turned the 2 pieces of fabric inside out and sewed a straight stitch along the sides

To make the waist band, I had another piece of fabric measuring 22" high and 30" wide (notice that the waist band is at least 2" smaller in width, this will make it a little snug at the waist so it doesn't fall off)

I folded the waist band fabric hamburger style then hotdog style.  Here is what the hotdog/hamburger styles look like. Sew along the one open side

Turn it it inside out. When you are done, the band should look like above.

Then you will have 2 pieces like above

Now, attach the waist band to the skirt using pins (both pieces should be turned inside out, meaning the right sides should be facing).  Then hem the bottom of your skirt and you are done:)

Stained T-Shirt refashion

A few months ago, I came across some colorful t-shirts for just $5 each. I grabbed 5 different colors, Diana looks awesome in anything but 'awesomer' in bright colors; or maybe mommy just loves color:)
My daughter has been very 'artistic lately', she has been writing and drawing and cutting whatever she can get her hands on, she was wearing this T-shirt on one of her missions. She is only 3 and I guess its a phase for her, hopefully it passes soon.

So, this is how Diana refashioned her tee

We tried to watch off the stains but wasn't successful. So I cut off the stained part. Lucky the top was ok

Use the cut off tee to measure the replacement knit fabric. Sew on both sides as shown. After sewing along the sides both pieces should be of equal width. Then turn the striped fabric out, so the wrong sides are facing.

From the 'head side' insert the lower piece

Make sure the edges on both pieces are evenly aligned.

Use pins to attach the 2 pieces. Then sew around the shirt above the pins. Then sew the bottom of the shirt and you are done.

Isn't she the cutest thing EVER?! I just followed her around and got some cute poses.

 

Striped maxi skirt tutorial

I am back with yet another maxi skirt tutorial. I have always loved maxis. I had c-sections with my pregnancies and elasticated skirts were the way to go for me. So I fell in love with maxis even more. They are comfortable and I think they will never go out of fashion, at least in my world. A couple of months ago, I came across a ton of knit fabric from fabric.com and so I have many more maxis to come..

First of all, I apologize for the poor quality of my photos.

I used a slightly different approach from my previous maxi skirts, here and here. Check out my toe nails, my 3 year old daughter painted them!

1. My fabric was 58" wide. My length from waist to floor is 43" long and I added 3 inches seam allowance for the bottom and elastic at the waist.
2. I folded my fabric in half (hotdog style), then in half again.
3. At the fold, I placed my old maxi skirt as a guide. I cut out the shape as illustrated in the picture.
4. Then I had 2 pieces. With the right sides in (facing each other), I sewed the 2 pieces together, the bottom and the top and added my elastic..

I love this particular knit fabric. It is a sherbet color, perfect summer color. It is light weight and thus very see-through and so I added a light weight slip inside.

Chevron Skirt tutorial

I finally made myself a chevron skirt. Can you tell that am a little behind in the fashion world??? Well, the good part is that I am getting more confident in making my own clothes and I am loving the challenge. P.s, the maxi skirt will never be outdated, right?

I have worn this outfit twice already, I am loving the skirt. I have always loved color but I LOVE black too so it ends up in most of my outfits:) I had to throw in some colorful shoes so it didn't seem like I was going to a funeral.

It was so windy when I took these pictures, you can't really see the shape of the skirt. It's the same ashere.  It cost me about $12 to make the skirt. I bought the fabric on sale from fabric.com. They don't have this particular color anymore.  It's ponte roma, my favorite knit for maxi skirts.They had tons of stripe fabric, I got too excited and ended up buying a couple more knits to make a dress and a few more maxis. I shall post them here as I get done.

 

What you need:

2 1/4 yards Knit fabric (am 5'11" tall so I needed some extra fabric to make this design work) So buy your fabric accordingly.

Thread
Scissors
Sewing machine:)

1. lay your fabric flat.
2. Fold it in half, hotdog style (the wrong side of the fabric facing each other, so the right side facing up)..
3. Then fold your fabric in half (hamburger style). At this point, you should have 4 pieces of fabric.
4. Take your waist measurement, divide it in 4. Even though my skirt stretches, give allowance for the skirt to be able to pass through the hips. For example, waist is 36", add 4 inches etc (depending on your hip size) Then divide your total 40" by 4 = 10". Therefore, 10" is how wide the waist will be on each piece. Arrange your fabric at an angle, as shown in picture #4. Make an outline with a piece of chalk. Both sides = the length of your skirt from waist to ankles (In the length of the skirt have 1/2" seam allowance at the bottom and about 1.5" for the elastic at the waist.With the width of the skirt at the bottom, I measured it the same as here.
5. You should have 4 pieces of fabric once you are done cutting. Then arrange them as shown and sew the pieces together.

Wasn't too hard as you can see from the smile on my face

Pillow tutorial - grommet & rope

This pillow is one of my favorite Pinterest finds. Immediately I saw it, I knew it would look good in my son's room.

Here is a tutorial on how to insert grommets:

Cut a hole into your fabric

Insert the grommet into the hole (the piece that pokes out should be on the wrong side of the fabric)

Place the grommet on top the the round hardware you see in the picture

Place the washer (the flat piece) on top of the grommet.

Place the puncher on top of the washer and hit it with a hammer a few times.

Voila!

DIY Sailboat T-shirt

Here is a cute project I have been working on. It only took a few minutes. I got the tee for $3 and the fabric paint was a dollar; another affordable project. You may have noticed by now that I love anything nautical. My son's nursery is nautical and I got some fabric to make me a shirt and a maxi skirt (navy, white and red) hurray!

I have always wanted to print on my own clothes but just didn't take the time to learn how. Last week I stumbled upon this cute blog. I loved her tutorial and decided to try it out and I am excited with how it turned out. Its not that scary after all.
I would like to make a skirt/shorts whichever one will be easier to make to go with this tee. It's going to be a fun spring/summer outfit for my little daughter..

Nautical nursery storyboard

My fabric finally arrived yesterday. I get 99% my fabric from here . I am ALWAYS very happy with my purchases from them. Sometimes I forget that I bought the fabric with my money because each package feels like a treat.. The fabric is extremely affordable, the best price I have found online. They have all sorts of fabric, home decor, apparel and quilting fabrics.. One stop store for me.

I decided to make a storyboard for my son's nursery. I made him his current bedding when I was 8 months pregnant. I really didn't have the energy to do it exactly the way I wanted, as a result, the bumper fell apart and I am not a fan of the sheets anymore. I never even got to make him a blanket (he is 8 months old now) I know, sad story. With summer around the corner, I decided to get everything new, hurray! I am excited to see how it all turns out. I am not doing any major  painting or furniture making in his room, so I am hopeful it won't take too long to finish, maybe 2 weeks max.

Fabric: boats/red & white stripes/solid red /navy/navy & white stripes Decor: wooden whale(saw it here but I don't think they have it anymore)/mini lantern/anchor pillow/swing shelf/sailboat (got it at half price last year)

So, I am making the bumper, fitted sheet, crib skirt, swing shelf (a PB knockoff), pillow and quilt. I really do like the whale decor, but I am not yet sure if I will make it (fingers crossed).
